The right extension depends on your block, your budget and what is not working about the house today. Here is how the main options compare.

Go out the back

A rear extension is a common way to add a bigger kitchen, living area or alfresco space, and it keeps the new rooms on the same level as the rest of the house. It works best when your block has room behind the house.

Go up with a second storey

Building up adds bedrooms, a bathroom or a retreat without using any more of your yard, so it suits smaller blocks. Whether it is possible depends on your existing structure and foundations, which we look at on the site visit.

Adding a wing to the side or rear can give you extra bedrooms or a second living space while keeping everything on one level, which suits families who would rather avoid stairs.

What types of home extension do you build?

We build rear extensions and alfresco rooms, second storey additions, ground-floor additions and extra bedrooms, and kitchen and living area extensions. We can also combine an extension with a kitchen or bathroom renovation.

Is it better to extend up or out?

It depends on your block and your goals. Extending out keeps everything on one level but uses yard space. Going up keeps your yard but depends on your existing structure. We talk through both on the site visit.

Can you build a second storey on my house?

Whether a second storey is possible depends on your existing structure, foundations and site. We look at this during the site visit, before we quote.

Can the extension be matched to my existing home?

Yes. We aim to match rooflines, materials and finishes so the new space blends with the rest of the house instead of looking added on.

Do I need to move out during an extension?

Many families stay in the house while an extension is built. It depends on the scope of the work. We talk through access, noise, dust and timing with you before work starts.

Do you do the plumbing and electrical work?

No. In NSW, plumbing and electrical work must be done by licensed tradespeople, and we do not carry out that work ourselves. We bring in trusted licensed plumbers and electricians and coordinate them as part of your project.
