Home Renovations in Wollongong

Why Wollongong Homeowners Choose Us

Wollongong’s inner and older suburbs — think Gerringong-style timber cottages through to interwar brick bungalows — bring their own renovation challenges: original hardwood framing, dated wiring and plumbing hidden behind walls, and blocks that step down steeply toward the escarpment or the coast. A lot of our Wollongong renovation work involves matching new work to existing period features — skirting profiles, ceiling roses, verandah details — so an extension doesn’t look bolted on. We also handle a steady stream of unit and duplex-style renovations for owners converting older rental stock into modern owner-occupier homes near the university and hospital precincts. Coastal exposure is a real factor here too. Salt air accelerates corrosion on fixings, external hardware, and untreated timber, so material selection on any Wollongong renovation — especially anything within a few kilometres of the coast — needs to account for that from day one.

Local Considerations We Plan For

Heritage & character overlays Some Wollongong suburbs carry heritage conservation area listings or character controls under Wollongong City Council’s LEP. Renovations to street-facing elevations in these zones often need to retain certain features or match materials — we check this at the planning stage so there are no surprises. Steep and irregular blocks Many Wollongong blocks slope significantly toward the coast or up toward the escarpment. Extensions on these sites often need engineered footing solutions or split-level designs, which we plan for early rather than discovering mid-build. Coastal-grade materials For renovations within the salt-air zone, we specify corrosion-resistant fixings, treated timber, and coastal-rated external finishes as standard — not as an upsell.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We recently had the pleasure of working with Modern View Construction on a major renovation project, and we couldn't be happier with the results. They knocked down half of our house, replaced the old laundry and bathroom, and then extended our home by adding two beautiful new bedrooms.

From start to finish, the entire process was seamless. Jimmy, the lead builder, is an absolute legend. He was not only highly knowledgeable and skilled but also incredibly easy to talk to. He kept us informed every step of the way, ensuring we always knew what was happening and what to expect next.

Jimmy's professionalism is unmatched. He had all the necessary insurances, which gave us peace of mind throughout the project.
